This Privacy Policy describes how Drunken Penguins ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website at drunkenpenguins.com and our party game platform (collectively, the "Service").
By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
a. Account Information
You only need an account to buy card packs. Accounts are handled by Clerk (clerk.com), which stores your email address and sign-in details. We keep your Clerk user identifier and email address solely to operate the Service, for example to link the card packs you bought to your account and send your receipt. Playing a game never requires an account.
b. Gameplay Data
When you create or join a game room, we collect the display name you choose, your in-game actions (votes submitted, scores earned), and the room code used. Players who join a room without creating an account are not linked to any persistent identity beyond their display name for that session.
c. Purchase Information
Purchases of paid card packs are processed through PayHere (payhere.lk). When you buy a pack, we pass PayHere your name, email address, mobile number and city, which it needs to process and screen the card payment. You enter your card details on PayHere's own secure page: we never see or store them. PayHere tells us the outcome, and we record the pack purchased, the amount paid, your email address and PayHere's payment identifier. We do not keep your name, mobile number or city on our servers. Your mobile number and city are also remembered in your browser's local storage so you don't have to type them again.
d. Automatically Collected Information
Our hosting provider may automatically collect standard server log data, including your IP address, browser type, and pages visited, for security and performance purposes.
e. Cookies and Local Storage
We use your browser's local storage to remember your age confirmation, your seat in a game room, and, if you sign in, Clerk's session cookie that keeps you logged in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate the game platform and deliver the features you use
- Associate purchased card packs with your account
- Communicate with you about your account or purchases (e.g. receipts)
- Respond to support requests sent to hello@drunkenpenguins.com
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or abusive activity
- Comply with applicable legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate the platform. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Clerk (clerk.com): accounts and sign-in
- Supabase (supabase.com): database and realtime game synchronisation
- Resend (resend.com): sending receipts and support emails
- PayHere (payhere.lk): card payment processing for card pack purchases
- Our web hosting provider: serving the website
4. Data Retention
We retain your account information and purchase records for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Game rooms, player names and answers are deleted automatically after 12 hours. You may request deletion of your account by contacting us.
5. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@drunkenpenguins.com. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
6. Children's Privacy
The Service is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
